In the very near future, agriculture will be precise or it will not be a profitable and sustainable agriculture. José Antonio Martínez Casasnovas, member of GRAP, is interviewed. |

Improvement of soil maps from remote sensing images to be useful for differential management of soils and cropsat intra-field plot scale Recently, Prof. José Antonio Martínez Casasnovas and Vertex Agroforestal, have developed a "Protocol for the improvement of the cartography of soils at intra-field plot scale through remote sensing images for its use in the differential management of soils and crops". The work represents an example of how geographic information technologies (remote sensing) and galvanic contact sensors (apparent electric conductivity, ECa) can help to increase the level of detail of soil maps made by classical methodologies based on physiographic analysis. Conference "ACTION RECOGNITION IN AGRICULTURAL ENVIRONMENTS BASED ON CONVOLUTIONAL OBJECT DETECTION" by Dr. Fernando Auat Cheein from the UTFSM, Valparaíso, Chile Dr Fernando Auat Chee has been working with the GRAP for a while in aspects related to data analysis and agricultural robotics. Nowadays power systems face several challenges in order to address the growing need for sustainable energy worldwide. In this context, several tasks directly focused on power systems operation can be either automated or completely accomplished by an unmanned or tele-operated robotic system. Robots can improve efficiency, reduce labour costs and, more important, avoid operational risks, since power plants and transmission lines are hostile environments for humans. Although there has been an incipient development of robotic applications in several tasks related to power systems, it is still a technology under research and development: it is highly dependent on the nature of the tasks to be performed and a unified framework of applications does not exist yet. The aim of this presentation has been to show the problems Dr. Auat Cheein faces in Chile with his group and the R+D+I they are doing in this field.

Article about detailed mapping of the soil apparent electrical conductivity for precision agriculture applications A research article about detailed mapping of the soil apparent electrical conductivity for precision agriculture applications has been published in Geoderma. The article is titled título "Apparent electrical conductivity and multivariate analysis of soil properties to assess soil constraints in orchards affected by previous parcelling" (authors: Asier Uribeetxebarria, Jaume Arnó, Alexandre Escolà y José A.Martínez -Casasnovas). The research was carried out in a plot planted with peach trees, where soils were limited by a petrocalcic horizon at variable depth. To know the variability of the main soil properties, a detailed survey of the soil apparent electrical conductivity (ECa) was carried out by means of a galvanic contact sensor (Veris 3100).
